Special Appeal
Unacceptable Cruelty: We dont wish to know
what goes on in the ignorant minds of people who act with deliberate cruelty against
animals or any living being. We do know that our country, like many others has many brutal
and pitiless people, some of whom own dogs. Mallow and her sister Willow were
left tied up inside an electrical substation. They could have been electrocuted or
simply died from heat and starvation. Luckily, caring dog owners discovered them and the
beautiful, gentle sisters are recovering in PAWS care. Back
when Bedouins were relying on the desert for subsistence, salukis were so valued for their
intelligence, obedience and hunting skills that they shared their human companions
food. Sadly, for Willow and Mallow, a cruel monster forgot about that as he tied them up
and left them to die. While there are good people here who do value this special dog, one
can visit the Friday Market today and find other Salukis, as emaciated and dehydrated as
our sisters were; tied up, on sale and in horrible conditions. If you can sponsor Willow or Mallow while they recover,
please email us for information on how you can help the sisters directly (pawsq8@yahoo.com). Thank you for caring!

As the holidays end and people begin to return, please consider giving up some of your free time helping the animals in our care. Perhaps you can help us to help the shelter pets through your time, sponsorship or donation.... The shelter is open 365 days a year! Email us to arrange an appointment to come meet the pets and our volunteer team. Above and below; just some of the caring students and young people who helped at PAWS' events or who volunteered at the shelter this year. Thank you for helping us to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals in Kuwait.

Important Information:
-
Below: PAWS role goes far beyond caring for our rescued animals residing at Kuwait's first shelter. Here PAWS volunteer Jenan at a presentation at AWARE. Click PAWS at A.W.A.R.E. on the right menu bar for more information on our Educational Outreach work.

PAWS does NOT have a clinic able to offer emergency
veterinary assistance to injured pets. Our shelter is at capacity during
the summer months. If we don't have room we are unable to accept an animal. We will advertise the animal and offer veterinary assistance at Al Dohama vet clinic while we work to find a foster home for a pet you wish to surrender or for a pet which you have found.
-
We advise you to take an injured or homeless animal to a vet
(Dr Andro at Al Dohama is our vet of choice; map to Al Dohama can be
downloaded from the left Menu bar 'Map to a Vet Clinic').
-
Email us or sms the PAWS phone if you intend taking a rescued
animal to Dr Andro and you want to surrender it to PAWS.
-
We ask that you leave a donation for any animal you surrender
to us. No amount is too small and it can be left with Dr Andro against our
huge veterinary bill.
-
We use a network of foster homes when the shelter is full,
and once your rescued and surrendered pet has been seen by the vet, he/she will be fostered
until shelter space becomes available.
-
Surrendered pets will not be returned to owners/rescuers and
will be found new homes as soon as they are well enough.
-
If you want to know more about helping us in our mission to
work, (in partnership with rescuers), to provide assistance to animals in
Kuwait, the contact form is on this page.
-
We do not have enough volunteers to man the paws phone 24/7.
Please keep in mind that we are all unpaid volunteers who do
what we can when we can.

Thank you to everyone who is part
of or helps our volunteer team in our efforts to keep the shelter a true refuge for
Kuwait's waifs and strays~ and for allowing us to extend our support to animals and people
who help animals internationally! The work continues......!

PAWS is made up of a hard-working group of part-time volunteers and we depend on 'the kindness of strangers' to help Kuwait's animals in need. As a non profit, volunteer led charity, we depend on caring people to give up even an hour or two per month to spend time walking dogs, or playing with the kittens. This is fun for the animals and for the people involved. Dogs like these above are given an opportunity to learn to trust people and have fun through volunteer one-on-one time! Not a dog person? Come spend time with our cats and kittens! Please consider the donation of your time to help out at the shelter. For those volunteers who go the extra mile and help out on rescue missions, "THANK YOU". You help us to make a difference,
when there simply is no one to come help instantly! Your continued support is
greatly appreciated and makes all the difference.

Help PAWS
be a voice for those who don't have one!

WHO ARE WE? We are an active group of local and
international volunteers committed to protecting animal welfare in Kuwait. PAWS aim in
forming, in late 2003, was to open Kuwait's first officially licensed shelter for
injured, lost or abandoned animals. Until PAWS formed, nothing was being done to address
the issue of stray, abandoned and injured animals in our country, (in any organised way).
The first phase of our shelter project opened in July 2005. Below a view of the shelter. Although a building was donated, every development to turn this shell into a shelter has been carried out painstakingly through donation and fundraising. We are unfunded by any private or municipality source and every brick, fence and can of paint has been gifted or purchased through donations.
Visit the Available Pets or Picasaweb Galleries to view more images of the shelter in action. (Top Left Menu Bar). We welcome new members!
Would you like to help? Consider donating time, services or other means of support. Invite our educational outreach
team to give a presentation to your students or interest
group. We welcome visitors to our shelter by appointment. Call or
email for more information. Take an active part in our community
venture, The PAWS Shelter Project!
PAWS cannot do it all. There is no municipality shelter in Kuwait. You can help. Subscribe as a member. Your membership subscription allows us to continue our work. The support of our members is greatly appreciated and makes all the difference.
(Our online membership form is on the top left menu bar on this page). There are other ways you can participate. Perhaps you are able to donate a couple of hours per week, (or per month)? Can you write, drive, talk on the
phone, or take a good photo? It’s easy to help homeless pets. Better still;
arrange an appointment to get up close and personal with our friendly cats, kittens, dogs and pups.
A bracing dog-walk or visiting some adorable cats are rewarding ways to spend an hour. You too can make a
real difference in the life of a homeless animal?

PAWS Cause For
Concern
There are many areas
which need our attention. This is just one of our immediate causes for concern at this time...
Halting the
authorisation of using shooting or poisoning as a means of controlling the feral/stray dog
& cat population in Kuwait. Why?

It's cruel
It doesn't work
There is an effective programme on
offer from WSPA through its Humane Stray Animal Control Program
The WSPA HSACP has been implemented
successfully in other GCC countries. Photo: PAWS volunteer Linette with a desert puppy.
